Your Holiday English Challenge: 14 Days, 14 Mini Tasks

Looking for a fun way to keep practising English over the holidays? We’ve got just the thing!

Welcome to the Holiday English Challenge: 14 days, 14 mini tasks to help you stay connected to English – and enjoy every moment of it.

Each task is short and simple, but they all give you a chance to practise your skills naturally. You can start whenever you like – just do one small task each day and watch your confidence grow!

Here’s your challenge:

Day 1: Describe today’s weather in English
Write one or two sentences or say it out loud. For example: “It’s sunny with a light breeze. Perfect for a walk!”

Day 2: Listen to an English song and learn one new word
Pick a song you like, listen carefully, and write down a word or phrase you didn’t know before.

Day 3: Watch a short video in English (no subtitles!)
Choose a YouTube video, TV clip, or advert and see how much you understand without reading.

Day 4: Write a short text to a friend in English
It can be as simple as “Happy holidays! Hope you’re having a great time!”

Day 5: Learn five new words related to food
Look around your kitchen or find a menu online. Write down and practise five food words.

Day 6: Record yourself reading a paragraph in English
Choose something easy – a short story, a news article, or even a recipe – and record yourself. Listening back can really help with pronunciation.

Day 7: Follow an English-speaking influencer
Find someone on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube who posts in English about something you enjoy (travel, sport, music, fashion – anything!)

Day 8: Write a list of five things you’re grateful for (in English)
Simple but powerful! Focus on the positives and practise using full sentences.

Day 9: Tell someone (or yourself!) what you did today in English
Talk about your day for one or two minutes, either to a friend, a family member, or just to yourself.

Day 10: Read a short news story or blog post in English
Choose something interesting but manageable – and don’t worry if you don’t understand every word.

Day 11: Learn five new words about travel or holidays
Think about flights, hotels, beaches, sightseeing – lots of useful vocabulary!

Day 12: Watch a film in English with English subtitles
This will help you match the spoken and written words. Pause if you need to.

Day 13: Write a short review (3–4 sentences) of something you’ve enjoyed
It could be a book, film, series, meal, or even a day out. Try to use descriptive words!

Day 14: Set one goal for your English learning in the new academic year
It could be “I want to improve my speaking confidence” or “I want to learn 100 new words.” Make it personal and positive.

Final tip:
You don’t need to be perfect – the important thing is to keep English in your life, even in small ways.
Feel proud of yourself for any practice you do. Every little step you take brings you closer to fluency!

Happy holidays and good luck with the challenge!
